Graduate Program Description

The Division of Global Affairs (DGA) is an interdisciplinary graduate program at Rutgers-Newark dedicated to preparing students for diverse career paths at the international and global level. DGA offers an unparalleled learning environment, giving students access to a network of academics and practitioners in the field. Central to DGA’s focus is the relationship between globalization and the dynamic role of governments, international and regional organizations, corporations, NGOs and civil society. The Division offers a PhD and an MS in Global Affairs.
 
Currently, DGA is the only Global Affairs PhD program in the US.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Understand the origins and operations of global governance, as well as how it articulates with regional, transnational, national, and grassroots actors and institutions. 

  • Develop a mastery of contemporary theories and concepts of global affairs, in order to analyze transnational issues and their interaction with local ones.  

  • Apply quantitative and/or qualitative skills to evaluate and inform policy and other strategic decisions. 

  • Assess the social responsibilities of governments, non-governmental organizations, corporations, and individuals in the global 21st century. 

  • Analyze and develop new and innovative solutions to most urgent challenges of the 21st century in the global community from a multidisciplinary perspective.
